Estimator, Construction (Commercial Glass)
Location: MD/DC/VA
This is a full time/permanent position.

One of the Commercial Glass & Glazing contractors in the MD/DC/VA area is looking to hire an estimator who can do takeoffs for interior glass projects including glass walls, stairs, rails, aluminum frames etc. A good working knowledge how glazing systems are priced and assembled is necessary.

Role and Responsibilities

Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates. Prepare construction budget by studying plans; updating specifications; identifying and projecting costs for each elevation.
Prepare subcontractor packages and obtain bids.
Evaluate offers to purchase by costing changes, additions, and site requirements. Collaborate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes to cost estimates.
Prepare, coordinate, and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and material orders.
Attend meetings, conduct site inspection and collaborate with field team to gather information on material and labor requirements as well as other data for project execution
Consistently follow up on submitted bids and budgets with Architect and/or Construction Manager to close business.
Properly turn over and review bid documents to Project Management in a timely manner.
Maintain product knowledge of current and prospective vendors and/or manufacturers.
Develop and maintain relationships with local general contractors and end-users.
Participate in quality control inspections and improvements.
Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects, or services by tracking actual costs as the project develops.

Qualifications and Skills

Must have knowledge of glass & glazing products (fixed glazing, aluminum, glass storefronts, doors, interior glass, and glass walls).
Significant experience in estimating and bidding glass projects accurately and on time and have successful track record of completed interior and exterior glazing projects.
Knows architects, construction managers, property managers, brokers and can close business
Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as active listening, learning and mathematics Proficient in estimating, scheduling, and project management software as well as AutoCAD and Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Project
Must be able to manage multiple tasks and material resources
Excellent time management, critical thinking, problem solving, negotiation, coordination, follow up and relationship building skills

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Architecture, Construction Management or related field) or equal experience/work experience
